Candace is a graduate student in the UCLA-Caltech Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP). She is doing her medical training at UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine and is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in stem cell biology under the Cellular & Developmental Biology home area. She received her B.A. in Molecular & Cellular Biology, as well as her B.A. in Classical Civilizations, and a minor in Education from the University of California, Berkeley. Additionally, she worked in the Chiu Lab at UCSF focusing on genetics, genomics, and infectious disease. Her background in research includes metagenomics, assay development, CRISPR-Cas and other genetic editing techniques, induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) biology in the context of infectious disease, immunology, and rare disease. Outside of the lab, Candace is a big foodie, loves spending time with her dogs, and enjoys discovering fun new experiences and places in LA with her friends.
